Turkey Vulture
Cathartes aura

Turkey Vultures have steadily been increasing their range in New York State since the beginning of the 20th century, when they were considered rare and occasional summer visitors to New York. The northward expansion of this species is hypothesized to be connected to the dramatic increase in roads, forest fragmentation, and White-tailed deer populations over the past century.
