Red-eared Slider
Trachemys scripta
Red-eared Sliders are not native to New York, but being a common pet turtle, many have been released in urban and suburban
areas. Most of the turtles in central park are sliders. Few studies have been done on the impact of sliders on native turtles,
but studies done in europe suggest sliders may outcompete native turtles for basking sites. (Cadi & Joly 2003)
