Osprey
Pandion haliaetus
The Osprey is another
raptor that has benefitted and rebounded after the banning of DDT. They can now be found scattered throughout the state, near
bodies of water.
Ospreys are fish eaters
that build large stick nests, often on manmade structures such as utility poles. They
return year after year to the same nest and add to it. Nests can thus grow to 6 feet in diameter.
