Slimy Salamander
Plethodon glutinosus
Slimy salamanders are named for the sticky secretions they release when threatened. They are black salamanders with white
flecks.
Slimy salamanders are terrestrial, spending most of thier lives underground on wooded slopes. They eat arthropods, slugs,
and earthworms. Slimy salamanders are found in western, central, and southern New York state. They have not been found in
the Adirondacks or Long Island.
