Gray Squirrels are found
throughout the state, and vary in abundance from common in urban, suburban and developed areas, to rare in parts of the Adirondacks.
Grey squirrels survive the winter by eating from caches of large hardwood nuts that they store in scattered places in the
fall. They are frequent visitors at bird feeders. In the summer, Fruits, berries, and fungi are all on the menu.
Female Grey squirrels may produce 2 litters a year, one in early spring, and a second during the summer.
Male and female squirrels do not form pair bonds; the dominant male in an area
is usually the one to mate with any females nearby.
