European Mantis
Mantis religiosa
European mantids
were accidentally introduced to the US at the turn of the century. They are voracious predators, going after anything that
moves (including other mantids). They were soon being released intentionally in hopes of controlling other pest populations
(e.g. gypsy moths). Despite ongoing myths, there is no law against killing a
praying mantis, although it’s a little unclear why you’d want to.
