Eastern Chipmunk
Tamias striatus

Chipmunks are easily recognizable by their black and white stripes and loud alarm chirp. They build extensive tunnel systems underground, often modifying existing burrows or root tunnels. Chipmunks are hoarders, and can fit dozens of nuts in each of their two cheek pouches for transport.  Chipmunk populations fluctuate from year to year and often reflect the availability of nuts the previous fall.
