Bald Eagle
Haliaeetus leucocephalus

The Bald Eagle, our national symbol was down to a single breeding pair in NY in 1970.  The banning of DDT, protection of habitat, passing of the federal Endangered Species Act, and reintroduction of eagles has resulted in the birds that can now be seen wintering and nesting on the Hudson River, as well as other areas of the state.
